Psychedelic Molecules 🫧 & Their Properties

 Psilocybin

Mainly derived from Psilocybe cubensis a basidiomycete (fruiting mushroom) and is the molecule that causes great a great deal of excitement in the medical and psychedelic community.

Psilocybin is a naturally occurring compound found in certain types of mushrooms, also known as “magic mushrooms”. It is classified as a psychedelic or hallucinogenic compound, meaning it can produce changes in perception and altered states of consciousness. Psilocybin has been used medicinally and recreationally for centuries, and its effects are highly sought after.

On a physical level, the chemical structure of psilocybin is composed of two indole rings, connected by a phosphorus-containing group. The structure of psilocybin closely resembles serotonin, a neurotransmitter which is responsible for regulating the mood and behavior of animals and humans. However, its effects are still largely unknown, as there is limited research available on it.

Most mushrooms that contain psilocybin secrete it in small amounts, and it can be ingested orally in an extremely mild form. In its purest form, it is a white, crystalline substance that has a bitter taste and smells musty. Its effects range from mild visual disturbance to intense hallucinations and altered states of consciousness.

Short-term effects of psilocybin may include general feelings of relaxation and euphoria, as well as improved visual acuity and changes in perception. In some cases, psilocybin may also produce a heightened sense of empathy and connection to the natural world. Long-term effects of psilocybin are still largely unknown, as research is ongoing. However, some studies suggest that it may reduce stress and anxiety, as well as increase feelings of well-being and connectedness.

The effects of psilocybin vary depending on the individual and their environment. When taken in a comfortable, safe setting, psilocybin can potentially provide a range of therapeutic benefits. However, it should always be taken with caution, as it can cause disorientation and confusion. To ensure a safe and responsible experience, it is important to research the mushroom variety before consumption and consult with a medical professional.

In conclusion, psilocybin is a potent psychedelic compound found in certain types of mushrooms. It is distinguished by its molecular structure, which closely resembles serotonin, and it can produce a range of physical and mental effects. Its potential as a therapeutic agent is currently being explored, as it may offer a range of mental health benefits. However, psilocybin should always be taken with caution, as it can lead to dissociative experiences.

 Lysergic Acid

Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD)

(6aR,9R)- N,N- diethyl- 7-methyl- 4,6,6a,7,8,9- hexahydroindolo- [4,3-fg] quinoline- 9-carboxamide

The way that LSD is configured makes it one of the best molecules to fit into the brain’s 5HTA receptors.

LSD, or lysergic acid diethylamide, is a powerful psychedelic molecule that has been popularized in the 20th Century. This psychedelic molecule has a long and storied history, having been used historically in religious and spiritual practices, along with therapeutic treatment of a variety of mental and physical ailments. Despite its expansive history, LSD has frequently been the subject of controversy, with its effects and its potential for abuse being hotly debated topics over the years.

At its most basic level, LSD is a chemical hallucinogen, a class of drugs that affect the brain in different ways than other psychoactive drugs. It works on the body and brain by affecting the serotonin receptors, causing the release of dopamine and other neurotransmitters. The effects of LSD can include both visual and mental enhancements, a heightened sense of euphoria, and feelings of insight and introspection, although the effects of this psychedelic molecule vary depending on the dosage, the user's mindset, and the environment in which it is taken.

Unfortunately, LSD has become associated with drug abuse and addiction, and most countries have made the possession, sale, and distribution of LSD a punishable offense. Despite this, it is still being used recreationally in some cultures, and its use has been attributed to mystical and spiritual experiences with reported life-changing effects.

The effects of LSD are not yet fully understood, and the risks associated with using this powerful psychedelic molecule should always be taken into account. While LSD has been used to treat various mental illnesses, depression, and other psychological ailments, it can also worsen preexisting mental health issues. Therefore, it is important to use LSD in a safe and responsible manner and be aware of its potential for risk. With that in mind, LSD can still be a powerful molecule with profound effects and insights.

 MDMA

3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine,

The Psychedelic molecule of MDMA, or 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, is an experience unlike any other. The molecular structure of MDMA was first identified in 1912, but it wasn’t until the 1970s when it became a popular recreational drug. MDMA is an empathogen, meaning that it provokes an increased feeling of empathy and emotional connection. It enhances sensations of pleasure, energy, and relaxation. The effects of MDMA range from increased energy, enhanced emotion/sensation/awareness, and elevated mood, to decreased anxiety and enhanced feelings of intimacy and relaxation.

MDMA has been a staple in the rave, club, and psychedelic scenes since the late 70’s and is one of the most popular drugs in the world. In an MDMA session, a person will most likely experience intensified sensory input, elevated mood, and an enhanced sense of empathy, social connection, and well-being. MDMA often brings on euphoria and a heightened appreciation for music, lights, and colors. While this can lead to amazing open-hearted connections and life-changing insight, there are potential risks with MDMA’s use.

Taking MDMA is not without risks; it is important to weigh the potential risks and harms before making the decision to use. MDMA can produce adverse effects such as headaches, dehydration, increased body temperature, and high blood pressure. In rare cases, users may experience serious medical problems including serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal. MDMA can also affect a person’s mental health, resulting in depression, anxiety, and paranoia. MDMA users may experience short-term memory problems and cognitive impairments, as well as prolonged feelings of depression and anxiety after the effects of the drug wear off. Additionally, when MDMA is taken in an unregulated setting, like at a party or club, it may have been “laced” with other drugs or chemicals, making it even more dangerous.

Given its potential hazards, it is important to be aware of the risks associated with MDMA use. Anybody considering the use of MDMA should educate themselves about the drug, respect their own safety, and consult a health care provider about any potential risks. Ultimately, the choice to use MDMA lies with the individual, and it is important to make an informed decision about the potential risks and benefits of use

5-MeO-DMT

5-MeO-DMT

(5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine)

The “god” molecule. Supposedly secreted by the pineal gland at death and, in large doses, the cause of trans-dimensional spiritual experiences when used ceremonially. DMT is very similar to melatonin and both could be considered hormones.

Five-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT) is a psychoactive drug found in a variety of species of plants and animals, and has a long history of traditional use for its spiritual, therapeutic and hallucinogenic properties. This substance belongs to the tryptamine family of chemicals and it has been used by indigenous South American spiritual practices for centuries.

The effects of 5-Meo-DMT are quite unique in comparison to other psychedelics, it tends to have much more of a powerful and emotionally stimulating, introspective experience. It has been described as a “shortcut to spiritual enlightenment” and the effects can last 15 to 20 minutes. Studies have found that 5-MeO-DMT has measurable effects on serotonin levels in the brain which are related to the effects of the psychedelic experience.

The primary effects seen when taking 5-MeO-DMT are strong changes in consciousness – users will often experience visual and auditory hallucinations or alterations in their perception of reality and time. People also report physical effects such as nausea and increased heart rate. Psychological effects include feelings of ego dissolution, breakthroughs in creative thought, and shifts in perception.

Users of 5-MeO-DMT typically describe it as an intense but very rewarding experience. Some report profound personal revelations and an increased sense of perspective and understanding of themselves and the world. Despite these positive experiences, 5-MeO-DMT should not be taken lightly as it can be a powerful and intense experience that can lead to physical, psychological and emotional repercussions.

5-MeO-DMT is a promising substance that can provide profound spiritual and psychological experiences, but it should be used responsibly and with care. Its effects must be taken seriously and it should be used with caution and under the guidance of a qualified health professional. Doses and the appropriate setting should be carefully considered before taking 5-MeO-DMT, and all necessary measures should be taken to ensure a safe and positive experience.
